Director, Wholesale
Our Client, one of the largest independent regional dealers and retailers in Canada, is seeking a talented and dedicated individual to join their team as their Director, Wholesale. Reporting to the VP, the Director, Wholesale maintains dual responsibility for the direction, planning and procurement of the department, while fulfilling the Category Business Manager role. Leveraging the merchandise assortment, the Director, Wholesale will develop a solid assortment offering and marketing platform, while providing retail direction to the store network. Using sales data, customer research, market data and industry information, the Director, Wholesale builds fact based, customer driven category marketing plans to optimize financial performance.
Key Accountabilities
- Determine and authorize category assortment, pricing and quantification for ongoing store programs, truckload sales and contract sales.
- Working in close conjunction with the purchasing team, leverage the core product assortment in the development of the company’s product line-up
- Develop strong working relationships with applicable functional areas (purchasing / distribution / accounting / is).
- Gather and analyze consumer, market, and industry information to formulate strategies and tactics within the context of the overall marketing strategy.
- Determine and manage the financial performance goals related to sales, pre-shrink, gross margin rate, controllable activity costs, and inventory productivity.
- Alignment of financial budgets.
- Work with Store Managers to ensure category planning and marketing programs are executed and operating effectively.
- Provide a strategic perspective on the presentation and merchandising of category assortment.
- Maintain store relations and strong alliance with personnel.
- Provide guidance and direction to the Service Centre team in support of the company’s requirements.
An ideal candidate has earned a bachelor’s degree in a related discipline, and/or recognized purchasing designation, such as PMAC, or has an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field. They have a minimum of 5 to 7 years of related merchandise/marketing experience, along with previous buying and retail merchandising experience. The incumbent should demonstrate strong business acumen, and demonstrate the company’s Core and Leadership competences. They should demonstrate working knowledge of MS Office products, with particular emphasis on Microsoft Excel spreadsheets.
